This weekend was Women Rock Chicago and Biggest Loser Racine, 2 half marathons in 2 days, yup, I’m CRAZY!
Women Rock Chicago
This was a race that I was really looking forward to, it was an all women’s half, 10k and 5k. I also got free entry into the race due to all the volunteer hours I had done with Team Ortho, they have a program where you earn bones to go towards gear or race entries, so I had to do the race since I got free entry! Only problem was I had already signed up for a race on Sunday, the Biggest Loser Half. So I decided to give it a go and do 2 halves in one weekend. My goal was to take Women Rock slow and tried not to overdue it so I still had something left in the tank for Sunday. Jenna and I headed down nice and early, the weather was perfect for a half marathon. The course started out like most of the Team Ortho races, it’s on the Chicago lakefront trails which is nice but also a bit congested. Turns out there was another race group out there at the same time, but we made due. Just before mile 4 the 10k came into our route and it was super congested and sucked as we tried to run around the Shedd Aquarium, the path was not very wide and the walkers had no race etiquette at all, so hard to keep moving and get around them. This happened 2 more times, there also were not enough water stops on the course. I did get to talk to Zach the race director after and told him my observations. Post race I also ran into Debbie who I had met at the Chicago Women’s half, so fun to see people you know at races. We headed off to the after party for champagne and hot men!
On the way back to Wisconsin we stopped at my favorite bagel place, my dad had been taking us there as long as I can remember and to me they are the best bagels in the world.
Then Frank and I hit the expo for the biggest loser 1/2.
I’ll post about Sunday’s race later this week!
