Longest run in ages!

So with the quad pain nagging me all summer, the DNF a few weeks ago and wanting to be able to run all the races I’m signed up for. I’ve been taking it easy and working with my ciropractor 3 times a week, and doing short runs. Today’s run was my longest in weeks, I ran 4 miles but I stopped a couple times for pictures and to enjoy the scenery. My company has it’s own park/rec center and there is a really nice 2 mile trail around the park, I did 2 laps today and I felt good throughout the run.

About 1.5 miles into lap 1, I sometimes see deer here

lets hope I’ll be ready for my half in just over a week! I feel pretty lucky that I have such a pretty place to run. I live about 2 miles from this park, if there wasn’t so much traffic I’d run to the park, but I’d rather drive over and be safe.

Planning for Ragnar 2014

This is getting real

This week I started putting my Ragnar Chicago team together, this will be my first time captaining a team, and my 3rd year running the Madison to Chicago Ragnar.  Even though the race is 8 months away, I am super excited about it.  My excitement is also at a high because I got my Ragnar Ambassador gear this week.  Can’t wait to wear it at a race, I’m thinking I’ll wear it at the Haunted Hustle Half in a few weeks, I might bring it to Syracuse, NY with me, but if anyone asks me about Ragnar while I’m out there, I won’t have any info for them, maybe I’ll have to add Ragnar Adirondacks to my list for next year!

So far a majority of my team from this year is committed to next year plus a couple new faces, can’t wait to introduce them to the world of Ragnar, it’s like no race I’ve ever run and the memories from the two I have ran will stick with me forever.

This is from one of the Ragnar Ambassadors that I think is great, a 12 person team is a big commitment and as a captain you have to set a few ground rules, this has everything laid out perfectly.

Captain Policy:

1. Your registration fee is your commitment. If you have not paid the registration fee you are not committed and do not have a slot.

2. You understand that running a 200 mile relay is a TEAM commitment. It is not an individual commitment. There are 11 other people who are counting on your participation physically, mentally and economically. Your non-participation will have a negative impact on all of those aspects of your fellow team mates experience. They may have to run YOUR miles, pick up YOUR shared expense and deal with the mental gymnastics of running with a reduced team.

3. You agree that in the event that you cannot participate, regardless of reason, you will:
A) Not receive a refund of race fees unless a PAID replacement can be found to take your slot. [Sometimes the only way to find a replacement runner for the benefit of the team is to have that runner participate non-paid — in which case you will not be refunded]
B)In the event that your slot cannot be filled, you agree to pay the lesser of the divided group expenses (van/gas/hotels) that you would have otherwise been responsible for or $100.
C) You understand that refunds and reconciliation will occur after the race has concluded.

4. As a participant you agree that:
A) You agree to pay your pro-rata share of team expenses (van/gas/hotels)
B)In the event that another member of the team cannot participate, you agree to pay your pro-rata share of team expenses (van/gas/hotels) (I.e. Total divided by remaining runners) minus any contribution by the non-replaced team member — if it can be collected from them.

5. You agree that your captain is awesome! And is putting in an amazing amount of time and effort to make the race amazing. You acknowledge that your captain is not a bank and that the team as a whole will work together to make sure the captain is not left economically “holding the bag” as a reward for all their hard work.

6. You agree to have a blast!

Zucchini lasagna

I’ve made this recipe a few times, it’s so delisious and easy to make.

http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/02/zucchini-lasagna.html

This is the recipe I mostly follow. I add a bag of baby spinach to the sauce and I use a package of sweet Italian turkey sausage in the sauce. I also used homemade sauce this time.

Pea soup fog

Getting back to running slowly, trying to take my time and do as few miles at a time as I can.  Last night I wasn’t sure if I was going to run today or not. I have 2 weeks until my next half. So I set my alarm and figured that I’d make up my mind in the morning, it was supposed to rain so that was going to be my excuse not to run. But my alarm went off and there was no rain, just fog as thick as pea soup.  So I got up, got my gear and headed to Kenosha to meet up with the KRC.

Foggy morning

Foggy morning

The best part of a Saturday morning run with the KRC is you never know how many propel may or may not be there, today was a pretty big group, lots of members of the club are doing chicago marathon and some are doing lakefront marathon so it was nice to see a big group out. I decide on a low milage run, just 2 miles, no need to push it.

Hard to tell Lake Michigan is really out there.

Not too bad for a Saturday morning

After running we all meet back up at Common Grounds for conversation, coffee and snacks. Today I went for a chocolate milk and a danish, another member of the club bought my stuff, such an awesom and unexpected gesture.  Love this group.  Liz and I hit up the Harborside Farmers Market after.  Perfect morning and way to start a Saturday.

Back at it

So today I decided to go for a run, a short, easy run. I choose one of my favorite paths, my company has its own rec center and park.  Normally the trail is empty, but my company also has a private school, so there was a cross country meet on part of the path, I ran against the high schoolers so I could see them coming and so they wouldn’t sneak up on me. They were only on one mile of the two mile path.

Love this path, pretty fall day

I felt pretty good during my run, I had to keep slowing down so that was hard.  My chiropractor was 100% behind me going for a short run tonight and recommended going for one tomorrow or Saturday too.  He told me to stop running if I had pain, my quad felt great so I was pretty happy.

Almost 2 miles!

Felt so good to be running again.

hopefully I’m on my way to being ready for my half in 2 weeks!
